Team BKMRK’s Favourite Comfort Reads
It’s the time of year for all things cosy and comforting, when you want to wrap yourself in a blanket and just read a favourite book ALL. DAY. LONG.
Here are some of Team BKMRK’s favourite comfort reads…
Naomi’s comfort read: I always go right back to children’s books when I need a comfort read. I came across an old favourite when I was clearing out my bookshelves a couple of weeks ago – Listen To The Nightingale by Rumer Godden – and immediately had to sit down in my armchair and dive in. It’s all about living your dreams and triumphing over adversity and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Also it features a super cute King Charles Spaniel.
Tash’s comfort read: Little Women. I just adore this book. It’s so homely and warm and forgiving. It just makes me feel instantly better. Plus Jo is the feminist icon we all need in life.
Becci’s comfort read: Matilda. My absolute go to, Roald Dahl is a genius and growing up I always wanted magical powers like Matilda and a teacher like Miss Honey.
Emily’s comfort read: The Night Circus. I defy anyone to read it and not be instantly transported into the world in a desperate need for some candy floss. It’s atmospheric, romantic and has stuck with me for many years.
Lucy’s comfort read: Northern Lights. Even though this story is full of dark twists and turns, to me it is the perfect comfort read. There are rooftop escapades over Oxford University, adventures beyond your wildest imagination, a badass feminist heroine, and souls which live outside your body in the form of an animal. It’s a sparkling jewel of a book and every time I read it, it feels like I’m coming home.
Sarah’s comfort read: HARRY POTTER OF COURSE.
